Toyota GR Yaris Morizo RR: Nürburgring-inspired suspension

Akio Toyoda – also known as ‘Morizo’ – had a thoroughly good time driving a specially prepared Toyota GR Yaris at the Nürburgring last year. During the 24hr race, he exceeded his allocated number of laps around the Green Hell. Rather than leaving with a firm intention never to race beyond his allotted laps there again, he wanted to create a limited-production GR Yaris that delivered the same feel as his race car.

Here it is: the distinctively specified and seriously cool Toyota GR Yaris Morizo RR. Put simply, it is an ultra-limited version of the explosive GR Yaris, fitted with suspension inspired by Morizo’s Nürburgring setup and a striking rear wing, alongside several other carefully selected alterations.

Toyota says the suspension has been “optimised to achieve damping forces that keep the tyres in firm contact with the road, including on uneven surfaces like those found at the Nürburgring”. The claimed outcome is “performance that allows for stress-free everyday driving while maintaining sporty performance”.

Its ability to cope with varying road surfaces ought to make it particularly well suited to Britain’s dreadful road network. Meanwhile, the substantial rear wing on this lively hot hatch evokes the glory days of Nineties tuning cars. Yes, it produces downforce, but, more importantly, it looks brilliant.

Gravel Khaki styling and Morizo 4WD mode

The fresh front spoiler, side skirts and carbon-fibre bonnet are equally smart. Toyota has finished the bodywork in a military-style shade called ‘Gravel Khaki’, complemented by matt bronze wheels that conceal yellow brake calipers.

The GR Yaris’s 4WD system gains a dedicated setting named – naturally – ‘Morizo’, taking the place of the far-from-ordinary GR Yaris’s gravel mode. With Morizo mode selected, torque is split 50/50 between the front and rear axles. The electric power steering has also received revisions. There is no news on the engine, which is likely to retain the 276bhp output of the turbocharged 1.6-litre three-cylinder unit.

Other special-edition details include a Morizo-signed windscreen, a suede-trimmed steering wheel, seats featuring altered headrests and yellow stitching, a piano-black grille, a full TFT display, and a serial-number plaque.

That plaque identifies which example you own. Only 100 will be produced solely for Japan, while another 100 are planned for European markets. The car pictured is an ‘under-development’ prototype, with the finished model due in spring 2026. Call Toyota as soon as possible.
