Revealed around eight months ago, the updated Opel Insignia has now arrived in Portugal in saloon (Grand Sport) and estate (Sports Tourer) forms.
Available in four trim levels - Business Edition, GS Line, Ultimate and GSi - Opel’s flagship model receives a new engine range.
This consists of two Diesel options and one petrol unit, the latter reserved solely for the GSi version.
Opel Insignia engines
The Diesel line-up begins with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 122 hp. First introduced in the Astra, this is an Opel-exclusive unit - entirely unrelated to PSA’s four-cylinder 1.5-litre engine - and can be paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic.
Above it sits a 174 hp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo Diesel which, like the 1.5-litre unit, is available with a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic.
The petrol offering, meanwhile, is based around a 230 hp 2.0-litre Turbo engine. Exclusive to the GSi, it is mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
As for the GSi, it features all-wheel drive with torque vectoring and introduces a new braking system with an electro-hydraulic brake servo. Its “dynamic arsenal” also includes electronically controlled suspension.

For businesses, and beyond
The launch of the updated Insignia is accompanied by two finance campaigns. Aimed particularly at businesses and offered in partnership with Free2Move Lease, Opel is promoting a lease for the Insignia Sports Tourer 1.5 Turbo D in Business Edition trim at €399 per month.
The agreement runs for 48 months/80,000 kilometres and covers maintenance, unlimited tyres, vehicle tax, the mandatory periodic inspection and 24-hour assistance. With businesses still in mind, Opel also offers terms that place the Insignia in the lowest bracket of Autonomous Taxation.
The second finance campaign makes it possible to buy the same Insignia Sports Tourer variant through Opel Financial Services financing. In this case, an initial deposit of 20% is required, followed by monthly payments of €356 for 72 months.
