Lexus NX 2027 gains more than 100 km of electric range

Launched in 2021, the Lexus NX has become one of the brand’s key models in Europe. Five years on, it is receiving an update that extends well beyond the usual cosmetic revisions.

Lexus has revised almost every area of the NX, including its powertrains, multimedia system, chassis and driver-assistance technologies.

The most significant developments are for the plug-in hybrid NX 450h+, which also introduces new technology for the brand, although the conventional NX 350h hybrid gains important updates too.

More than 100 km of electric range and rapid charging

Starting with the NX 450h+, its lithium-ion battery capacity has increased from 18 kWh to 23 kWh, representing a rise of around 30%. Hybrid system output has also climbed from 292 hp to 307 hp.

Lexus quotes a 0–100 km/h time of 6.1 seconds, although the standout figure is its electric-only range: more than 100 km. This remains provisional, pending WLTP certification.

The changes are not limited to the battery. The NX 450h+ can now use rapid direct-current (DC) charging, making it the first Lexus plug-in hybrid to offer this capability. Lexus estimates that charging from 10% to 80% will take around 30 minutes.

At the other end of the line-up is the NX 350h, a conventional hybrid that does not require external charging. Its output remains at 199 hp, but it too adopts Lexus’s sixth-generation hybrid technology. Updates include a lighter battery, with its weight reduced from 32.7 kg to 23.5 kg, alongside several improvements to the electrical components intended to enhance efficiency and system response.

Towing capacity rises to 1500 kg for both powertrains.

Evolution rather than revolution

Exterior revisions follow an evolutionary approach. The front grille is now frameless and is paired with new light units, while the rear gains a new lighting signature and an illuminated central Lexus badge.

There is less chrome, too. Exterior details now predominantly use darker finishes, while the F SPORT adds its customary model-specific touches, including 20-inch wheels and red brake callipers.

More significant is the work carried out on the chassis. The body structure has been strengthened, the steering has received a new calibration and the suspension has been revised. Lexus says it has increased floor rigidity by around 25% and cut engine and road noise by approximately 20%.

A more digital Lexus NX interior

While the exterior updates may be difficult to spot for those less familiar with the NX, the interior changes are more apparent. The instrument panel has been redesigned and now incorporates a 12.3-inch digital display, positioned alongside the new 14-inch LexusConnect multimedia touchscreen.

There are less obvious improvements here as well. Lexus says processing speed has been quadrupled, while storage capacity has increased eightfold to 256 GB.

Then there is Sensory Concierge, available on higher-specification versions. It combines lighting, music, climate control, seat temperature and even fragrances to create different cabin atmospheres. There are three preset modes and a choice of 50 lighting shades.

Safety has also been upgraded. The latest Lexus Safety System + will be standard across every version and adds new features, including junction assistance, emergency steering and a system that can bring the vehicle to a stop should the driver become incapacitated.

When will the Lexus NX 2027 arrive?

The Lexus NX 2027 will arrive in Portugal during the first half of next year. A pre-sale phase is planned for the opening months of the year.

Prices and the final Portuguese line-up have not yet been announced.
